TAMKO®: Paving the Road to Sustainable Roofing Products

For TAMKO® Building Products, being eco-conscious is more than just riding a trend in corporate responsibility. The brand truly lives by its word and its promise to provide customers with sustainable products of top-notch quality. It’s no longer a surprise that it was able to use over one billion pounds of recycled materials in manufacturing its products since 2013.

A Remarkable Feat

For 75 years, TAMKO has been trusted by building professionals including exterior remodeling contractor Timberland Exteriors™. From the day the brand started up to this day, its team of experts has dedicated their time and effort in creating products that stand the test of time.

However, the process of making such products, or any other factory-manufactured product, can result in serious environmental consequences. Because of this, companies from various industries have started shifting to more mindful manufacturing processes. And with this latest achievement by TAMKO, it has proven that it is possible to create outstanding products that don’t hurt the environment.

Since 2013, TAMKO has used approximately 1.1 billion pounds of recycled paper, plastic, sawdust and other materials to manufacture its products. In 2018 alone, its Knoxville, TN facility used more than 89 million pounds of recycled cardboard in manufacturing their products. During the same period, TAMKO was able to reintroduce around 54 million pounds of material back into its production processes. Those that could not be reused, which amounted to around 549 million pounds of material, were sent to other recyclers.

If you have just booked a residential roofing service and you’re keen on finding eco-friendly roofing products, TAMKO’s products boast significantly reduced carbon impact.

Other Environmental Efforts

TAMKO complements its recycling efforts by actively reducing their consumption of natural resources and promoting healthy environments for its employees and surrounding communities. Meanwhile, its Frederick, MD facility has implemented a rainwater and recycling system resulting in a significant decrease in its water consumption at approximately 100,000 gallons a year.
