3 Facts Homeowners Should Know About Roof Warranties

If you plan on getting a new roofing system for your home, make sure that you take its warranty into account. The roofing warranty, after all, can provide an extra layer of protection to your investment. To help you understand more about this crucial aspect of roof replacement, the premier general construction company in the area, Timberland Exteriors, shares a few handy facts:

1. Roof warranties come in different types. The coverage of most roof warranties depends on the manufacturer and the actual roofing quality. Basically, the more expensive and higher quality the roof system, the more extensive its coverage. The standard manufacturer warranty covers the roof products and materials, while the workmanship warranty from the roofing contractor covers the installation. There’s also the extended manufacturer’s warranty, which provides coverage for both materials and workmanship.

Timberland Exteriors is not just your go-to home remodeling contractor. If you need a professional to handle your roof replacement, we’ll be more than happy to fill that role. As an Owens Corning® Preferred Contractor, we can provide you access to the Preferred Protection Warranty included with our Owens Corning roof systems. This offers materials-only coverage after 50 years and workmanship coverage for the first 10 years.

2. Roof warranties should be registered. After deciding to invest in a particular roof system and choosing its installer, the next step is to check the manufacturers’ requirements for registering the warranty. If a certified roofing contractor is handling the work, they may have to register the warranty with the manufacturer within a set timeline. It’s important to have the warranty registered to avoid issues later on, when you need to file a warranty claim.

3. Roof warranties can be voided. There are a few things that can actually nullify the coverage of your roof warranty. Most manufacturers, for instance, won’t honor the warranty if the roof installation or repair is done by someone other than an authorized contractor. Installing a satellite dish or antenna on the roof system, cleaning the roof with a pressure washer, and putting off roof maintenance are also grounds for a voided warranty.
