Home Maintenance Tasks You Shouldn’t Delay

When you’re busy, you can’t help but put off doing chores like maintaining your house. But the more you put some of these off, the more likely it is your house’s facade will suffer damage.

Timberland Exteriors recommends completing these tasks frequently.

Gutter Cleaning

If you’ve been procrastinating and letting leaves accumulate in your gutters, have them cleaned as soon as possible. Left unattended, the gutters could lean away from your house and might even cause rot around the facade.

Overgrown Plants

Although some might argue vines clinging on to a wooden exterior might give the facade a classic look, overgrown gardens, lawns and plants can look unsightly. But if left untrimmed, the vines will slip into the siding, trapping in moisture and leaving the facade vulnerable to rot.

Chipped Paint

While wood can help give a rustic look to your exterior, it needs constant maintenance to prevent rot.

If your house’s wood siding still doesn’t have paint, make sure a fresh coat is applied to it as soon as possible to protect it from the elements.

If some of the paint is chipped off, be sure to scrape off the remaining patches so it won’t peel off over time and leave parts exposed.

If you don’t have the time to keep an eye on wooden siding, it might be worth considering rot-proof vinyl siding installations.

The same thing applies to wooden window frames. Without a fresh coat of paint, they’ll rot over time.

It might be worth considering vinyl window installations as well.

Power-Washing Done Right

But in the meantime, make sure to power-wash from the top to the bottom to make sure water doesn’t get into the siding and leave it susceptible to rot.

After-Storm Cleaning

After extreme weather events (storms, hail storms, etc), make sure you check the entire facade for any signs of damage, including the gutters and especially the roof. If there are signs of damage, contact a contractor and have him repair any cracks or leaks to ensure water doesn’t seep in and cause mold.

Timberland Exteriors, your local storm damage restoration service provider, has a list of signs of a hailstorm-damaged roof.

And if you do find any sign of damage, you can reach Timberland Exteriors by filling out this form or by calling (715) 203-8040. If you’re in St Paul, MN, you can visit one of the firm’s three offices in the state.
