How the Better Business Bureau Rates Contractors

When looking for a residential roofing service provider or any company to work in your home, you must check their Better Business Bureau (BBB) rating. It can give an idea about how contractors interact with their clients and also how they resolve possible conflicts.

Read on to learn how the organization rates contractors.

The BBB Rating System

The updated BBB rating system rates companies on an A plus through F letter-grade scale. These letters represent BBB’s degree of confidence that the business is providing reliable services and with an extreme effort in resolving customer concerns filed with the BBB.

17 factors based on objective information are considered when rating an exterior remodeling contractor and other companies. They are weighted by BBB’s evaluation of the importance of each factor. The points are calculated and a letter grade is given on the point range the business belongs to.

How Are the Factors Weighted?

The complaint history plays a major role in a business letter-grade rating. Around 85 percent of the scoring is determined by consumer-reported complaints that have been verified and assessed by BBB. This includes the number of complaints, how severe they are and how a business resolves them. However, there are overarching factors that can affect a contractor’s rating despite having no recent complaints, such as how long they have been in business, government actions, and advertising or competency issues.

Does the BBB Guarantee the Reliability of Accredited Businesses?

The ratings solely represent BBB’s level of confidence in a business’ dependability and method of resolving customer concerns. To make sure you’re hiring a reliable contractor, it would still help to do your research, ask for references and read reviews.
