Polyvinyl Chloride Roofing Systems

Thermoplastic polyvinyl chloride (pvc) or vinyl is installed on buildings in different climates around the world. Its durability has been proven to withstand thermal cycles, wind loads, structural movement and extreme temperature. Vinyl siding installation is a popular option for homeowners looking for versatility, beauty and longevity, along with low-maintenance. It stands to reason that vinyl membranes are great for the roof, as well. Here’s why Timberland Exteriors recommends vinyl.

Watertight Seams

Vinyl is heat-welded, forming seams that are long-lasting, permanent and watertight. This bond is firmer than the membrane itself and is a better seal than ones made with adhesives.

Heat Resistant

Vinyl is essentially fire resistant. Vinyl membranes have a base resin moderated with plasticizers and UV stabilizers and strengthened by fiberglass materials. This makes them resistant to high heat and it’s also what makes a vinyl window installation a great option for adding to a home’s resistance to fire.

Energy-Efficient

During summer, the surface of a dark-colored, low-slope roof may experience a temperature rise of 150 to 190 degrees, while a light colored vinyl roof in the same area only reaches about 10 to 25 degrees above the surrounding temperature. This makes it easier for your commercial property to regulate internal temperatures during the hot season. The opposite is also true during the colder seasons.

Wind Resistant

Vinyl roofs are extremely lightweight but have great weathering resistance to ultraviolet rays, harsh weather conditions and high wind loads. If severe weather conditions have damaged your roofs to an extreme degree, contact a storm damage restoration company near you to ask about their vinyl membrane alternatives.
