What You Should Do When Bad Weather Damages Your Siding

When you regularly maintain your home’s exterior, you can be sure that it will keep protecting you and your family from the local climate. But the weather can be too harsh sometimes, and in some cases, it can lead to unexpected siding damage. To learn what you can do when your siding suffers storm damage, Timberland Exteriors is here to share a few helpful tips:

Check What Your Insurance Policy Covers

After a recent storm, one of the first things you should do is to check what your homeowner’s insurance covers. Even if it only covers the damaged areas of your siding, you should still file an insurance claim. Depending on your policy, you might just get a good deal within your coverage or even have an extra provision for replacing your damaged siding!

File a Claim for Siding Damage

When you file your insurance claim, make sure to have a professional exterior home improvement professional inspect your damaged siding as this can help in getting more coverage from your insurance policy. Professional contractors will usually provide a detailed report on your siding’s level of damage which helps give a more accurate estimate of how much will be spent on repairs. Expect your insurance provider may also inspect the damage on your exteriors through a representative.

Check If Your Policy Includes Supplemental Claims

Replacing damaged siding can sometimes be difficult especially if you’re trying to locate new materials that match the look of your existing panels. In some cases, the original manufacturer may either be out of business or no longer makes the same product! If this happens, you can choose to fully replace your home’s siding through a supplemental claim.

Depending on the policy language and provisions of the coverage, a supplemental claim can be filed to cover the full re-siding costs of your home if a color match can’t be found. If you’re unable to file a supplemental claim, your insurance may still cover part of the work or materials needed for your replacement.
